Aditya Kulkarni, MBBS, MS

Graduate Student in Pathology, 2021–2024
Biography

I was born and raised in the small town of Latur, Maharashtra. Being interested in the human body, I pursued my undergraduate in medicine and graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS; equivalent to MD in the US) from Mahatma Gandhi Mission University of Health Sciences. I decided to opt for research and got the opportunity to work with Dr. Dhiraj Bhatia at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Gandhinagar. I went on to complete my Master of Science (Bioengineering) degree from Northeastern University. I got in contact with Dr. Karandikar while exploring options for a doctorate degree and was fascinated by his research in autoregulatory CD8 cells and their role in auto-immune demyelinating diseases. I am currently pursuing my doctoral degree in Experimental Pathology at Dr. Karandikar’s lab and hope to work on mechanisms behind suppressive actions of CD8 T cells and the help identify immunotherapeutic treatments for Multiple Sclerosis.
